CALLING ALL PLAYERS!

The Community Play Project is excited to announce our latest series, CPP Dreamin', a six-week exploration of creativity and self-expression during the 2020 shelter-in-place order.

How it Works: Every Wednesday, April 23 through May 27, we'll announce a new “Call to Play" asking individuals of all ages and abilities to tell us a story in a unique way (dancing, singing, etc.). A "Call to Play" is a creative activity or task.

The activity will change each week, but the theme will always be the same, “dreaming.”

“Dreaming” can mean your own dreams, your hopes for the future,

dreaming in general, or dreams you’ve had during quarantine--

whatever "dreaming" means to YOU.

To play along, simply follow the directions for each weekly "Call to Play," below, and submit your creations to the CPP Dropbox by the deadline.

After the series ends, we'll compile your submissions into a short presentation celebrating our community and all of our talented friends! We'll also select some of our favorite creations to be showcased in our upcoming production.

Let's Play!

Week Six:

Draw/Paint

Submission Deadline:

Tues., June 2, 2020

In theatre, artists and craftsman use their skills to create elaborate sets, realistic props, and beautiful costumes. All of these elements come together to create the world of the play and bring the story to life.

The Challenge: Draw or paint a picture or scene inspired by the theme "Dreams." Then, upload a picture of your masterpiece to the CPP Dropbox by Tues., June 2. Simply follow the link below and select "upload." No account required.

And no experience necessary!

Just remember to be creative, be curious, and have fun!

Week One:

DANCE

Submission Deadline:

Tues., April 28 at 12PM

The Challenge: Using the word “Dreams or Dreaming” as your inspiration, make up a short dance or movement sequence (no more than 2 minutes in length).

Then, upload a video of you (or your friends and family) performing your dance to the CPP Dreamin Dropbox. Simply follow the link below and select "upload."

No dance experience necessary! Just remember to be creative, be curious, and have fun!

Week Two:

SING

Submission Deadline:

Tues., May 5 at 12PM

The Challenge: Create a video of you singing your favorite song about dreams or dreaming, or write one of your own!

Then, upload your video to the CPP Dreamin' Dropbox. Simply follow the link below and select "upload." No account required.

And no experience necessary! Just remember to be creative, be curious, and have fun!

Week Four:

TABLEAU

Submission Deadline:

Tues., May 19 at 12PM

In theatre, a Tableau is created when actors freeze in poses to create a picture of one important moment, or scene. Think of it like a living picture, a snapshot of a moment in time that tells a visual story--like when you hit pause during a movie.

The Challenge: Think of a moment or scene from your favorite book, play, or movie that has to do with dreams or dreaming and try to recreate that moment in a tableaux. Then, upload a picture of your tableau to the CPP Dreamin' Dropbox. Simply follow the link below and select "upload." No account required.

Remember to tell the story, be specific, and have fun! Creating a strong tableau scene takes more than just standing in a frozen position. It's all in the details, such as facial expressions, body posture and gestures, and context (scenery and costumes). Use your body, set pieces (furniture), costumes (clothes lying around), and even scene partners (willing family) to help tell your visual story.

Week Three:

ACTING

Submission Deadline:

Tues., May 12 at 12PM

The Challenge: Record a video of yourself performing a short monologue about dreams or dreaming. It can be an original piece or a speech from your favorite play or movie. For a double challenge, try to memorize the speech before performing it!

Then, upload your video to the CPP Dreamin' Dropbox. Simply follow the link below and select "upload." No account required.

No acting experience necessary! Just remember to be creative, be curious, and have fun!
